The  Monadnock  Region

Monadnock State Park

With its thousands of acres of protected highlands, 3,165-ft. Mt. Monadnock was designated a national nature landmark in 1987. There are 40 miles of maintained foot trails, many of which lead to the bare rock summit through unique alpine vegetation. The park is open year- round, with recreational use during daylight hours only. Admission is $4 for adults; $2 for children ages 6 – 11; children ages 5 and under and NH residents age 65 and over are admitted free. It has been said that Mt. Monadnock is the second most hiked mountain in the world after Mt. Fuji in Japan.

Miller State Park

Located on the 2,290 foot summit and plank Pack Monadnock in Peterborough, Miller is the oldest state park in New Hampshire. A winding 1.3 Mile paved road leading to the scenic summit is open for visitors to drive in summer and on spring and fall weekends. Picnicking and hiking are popular activities at the scenic mountain park. Three main hiking trails ascend Pack Monadnock to the summit.  On a clear day view’s reach to Mount Washington, the skyscrapers of Boston and the Vermont Hills. Weekends and Week days: Early April to Mid-May; Late October until snowfall. Rates: 12 and older $4:00, ages 6 – 11 $2.00, 5 and under are free. Residents 65 years and older are free.  Wednesday’s rates are half price.

Rhododendron State Park

Located in Fitzwilliam Nearly 15 of its 494 acres of ancient woodlands are crowded with a unique stand of Rhododendron Maximum, the largest and most vigorous grove north of the Allegheny Mountains and east of the Mississippi, with bushes as high as twenty feet, walking paths, picnic grounds, views of Mt. Monadnock and the region.  Blossoms peak mid-July. Fee for entrance is $3.00 a day.  The park is located off Rhododendron Road.

Museum - Jaffrey

Jaffrey Historic District which includes: The Jaffrey Meetinghouse, Little Schoolhouse Museum, Melville Academy, and the old burial ground of Amos Fortune, Hannah Davis and Willa Cather.   Open to the public Saturday and Sunday during July – August from 2:00 – 4:00 and by appointment from May – October. Cathedral of the Pines

The dream of a Cathedral of the Pines began more than sixty years ago as a loving tribute to a son lost in battle. It is now a national Memorial dedicated to the honor of American men and women, military and civilian, who have lost their lives in wars. Open to all faiths, Cathedral of the Pines is an enduring monument to patriotic sacrifice. Covered Bridges and Stone Arch Bridges in the Monadnock Region

Hancock – Greenfield - (1937) Contoocook River – Located 1 mile east of US 202 or 3 ½ miles west of Greenfield, NH on Hancock-Greenfield Rd.

Swanzey – Thompson Bridge – (1859) Ashuelot River, 2 span about 155ft. Located east of NH Rt. 10 at West Swanzey, New Hampshire.

Swanzey – Cresson Bridge – rebuilt (1859) 2 span 159ft. Ashuelot River. Located one mile North of NH 32 at Swanzey Village, New Hampshire.

Swanzey – Carlton Bridge – 60 ft.,  South Branch Ashuelot River. Located east of NH Rt 32 ½ mile south of Swanzey Village, New Hampshire.

Swanzey/Westport – Slate Bridge – 142 ft., originally built around 1862, replaced in 1862 and then rebuilt in 1993 after being destroyed by arson.  Located east of Rt. 10 on Westport Village Road, near Westport Village, New Hampshire.

Winchester – Ashuelot Covered Bridge – (1964) 2 span, 160 ft.,  Ashuelot River. Located south of Rt. 119 at Ashuelot, New Hampshire.

Winchester – Coombs Bridge – (about 1837) 118 ft., Ashuelot River.  Located south of Rt. 10, ½ mile southwest of Westport, New Hampshire.

Hillsborough Stone Arch Bridge – Once Home to more than a dozen stone arch masonry bridges, Hillsborough now has five of these gems, four of which are used everyday to support auto, bike and foot traffic.

Peterborough Players Professional Theatre

Founded in 1933, the Peterborough Players has offered high-quality theatre for the Monadnock Region of southwestern New Hampshire and beyond. As the only professional producing theatre in the region and one of the oldest summer stock companies in the country, the players has staged more than 300 different plays over the years. The Players has presented a variety of world and regional premiers as well as recent work by contemporary playwrights. The Summer Season runs from June – September with added Special Events through the fall and winter. MacDowell Colony

The MacDowell Colony, founded in 1907, is the oldest artist’s colony in the United States. It was awarded the National Medal of Arts from Former President Clinton. The MacDowell Colony is located in Peterborough on 450 acres in the Monadnock Region of New Hampshire. The Colony is designed to facilitate a balance between a focus on work and an interdisciplinary interaction. Apple Hill Center for Chamber Music

Apple Hill Center located in Nelson, New Hampshire. Apple Hill Chamber exists to perform and teach chamber music at the highest standard. Summer Concert Series consists of ten public concerts presented Tuesday Evenings at 7:30pm featuring the Apple Hill Chamber Players. This acclaimed thirty-year performance tradition has nourished over 25,000 audience members from the Monadnock Region. Shattuck Golf Club

The Shattuck Gold Club located in Jaffrey, New Hampshire – The Shattuck is carved from the granite foothills of Mt. Monadnock, is one of the most virtually stunning gold courses you’ll ever play.  As one writer described it, “Like 18 separate gems strung together in a perfect setting” for rates and availability please call the Pro –Shop (603) 532-4300. Senior rates are available Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursdays all day, and Saturdays and Sundays after 2:00pm and includes a driving cart.

Crumpin - Fox Club

The Crumpin – Fox Club is located in Bernardston, Massachusetts. The Crumpin – Fox Club was conceived in 1969 as the “Field of Dreams”.  The name was derived from the Bernardston-based Crump Soda Company that was sold in 1853 to Eli Fox; thus becoming the Crump & Fox Soda Company. Our continuing goal is to provide an enjoyable and challenging golf experience and promote values of the game of golf.  This is a 18 hole par 72 course and takes approximately 4 ½ hours to play. The facilities include, golf shop, Tennis and two restaurants: Zeke’s Grill and Bella Notte II. Open daily at 8:00am.  Open to the public to book up to 6 days in advance for Tee Times.
